While WHMIS 1988 and WHMIS 2015 / GHS are two different systems, they share the same goal-to ensure that people who work with hazardous chemicals on the job have information to protect their health and safety.

During the transition from WHMIS 1988 to WHMIS 2015, workplaces may be using some chemicals labelled under the old system and others under the new. This means employers will have a duty to provide both WHMIS 1988 and WHMIS 2015 training to their workers. This generic course helps workers to recognize the hazard classification and communication components of both systems; understand the critical information that is provided through these components; and apply that information to protect their health and safety.
